I usually don't do fan art, but seeing as the man who is currently playing Doctor Who also played one of my favorite characters: Malcolm Tucker from the series "The Thick of It" and the movie "In the Loop". Not that this is remotely in my personality, but I would love to swear as fluently as he!
Drawings and paintings from life, from my addled head, and others. This blog documents the often rough bits of my journey as an artist, as opposed to the nicer, pleasing bits. For the nicer bits (i.e. edited) please visit me on my website: https://www.anselmyew.net/ or find me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/anselmyew/

plein air on hyde street pier
hadn't done this in a looooong time! and embarrassingly, this was my first time visiting the ship 'balclutha'. i will definitely be making a return trip! $5 gets you access to four historic ships for 7 days?! gotta love the national park service!
this, my first for the day, turned out way better than it had any right to:
the tugboat 'hercules':

trying to creep myself out a little
more or less succeeded....this started off as an abstract thing that wasn't becoming anything, so i set it aside for months.

...from workshop. one of my favorite models! i had painted over some bad drawings in my sketchbook and that served as an interesting base color for the studies. 5-10 minutes, these...i think...

a painting a day (1-5)
So last month I embarked on a goal to do a painting a day for a month..Over the years, I feel like working digitally all day is slowly killing my soul and felt the need to make an actual physical paintings (and drawings for that matter) a more prominent part of my daily life. My constraints were only to do something with paint - could be from life could be from photo, could be a master copy, could be from my head. Generally i kept them small, and generally i tried not to spend too much time on them (must resist the urge to fuss!). As it turns out most of these ended up being from photos, i guess for convenience, though i am excited to try some master copies too, as i continue. These are by and large watercolor and gouache with some pencil here and there. though i've been trying to stay more 'watercolor-y', many turned out more 'gouache-y'. Shrug..It's what i gravitate towards i guess.
Some of them turned out ok, some of them pretty crappy, and i'm still debating whether to post those, heh heh! Here are the first few..

happy halloween!
Neither of us are big on this 'holiday', but for some reason my wife is always calling Valentine's day 'Halloween'. Anyhow, a quick diversion this morning before starting work...hadn't really planned it to be quite so...anatomical, but there you are.
